As she looks forward to getting to know him better, Father’s Day looms on the horizon, a potential minefield of emotions and expectations. But Curtis, ever the stand-up guy, is determined to make sure that his relationship with Trina only grows stronger from here on out. Will Trina ever see him as her true father figure? If she does, what does that mean for Marcus Taggert (Réal Andrews)?
Learning the truth about her biological father was a hard pill for Trina to swallow. It left her feeling as though a part of her identity had been ripped away. But Trina is a fighter, and she knows that the only way to heal is to face the pain head-on.
She’s starting to see a glimmer of hope ahead. One thing that might help her embrace Curtis as her dad is jumping back into researching her family tree. A few years back, Trina discovered she has a passion for uncovering her family’s history, and now she could be channeling that passion into learning more about Curtis’ past. She knows that by opening herself up to learning about his family — her family — she can start to bridge the distance between them. And who knows? Maybe she’ll even discover something they have in common along the way.
Trina will soon find herself stuck in a tough spot – torn between the love of her newfound father and her long-time beloved dad, Marcus. As she grows closer to Curtis, Marcus will feel like he’s losing his daughter no matter how much she reassures him that nothing has changed between them. Trina knows she has a difficult conversation ahead of her. How can she continue to navigate the murky waters of her relationship with Curtis without hurting Marcus? As it turns out, she can’t, and what lies ahead for Marcus isn’t good.
As Trina is forced to watch Marcus seemingly erode before her very eyes, she’s going to wonder what happened to the father she knew and loved. Where is the man who taught her to ride a bike without those training wheels? Where is the protective dad who was skeptical of Rory Cabrera (Michael Kruse) — because no one would ever be good enough for his little girl?
Watching Marcus spiral into a drunken oblivion is going to overwhelm Trina with guilt as she takes his pain on as her own. Without any means of stemming the hemorrhaging from inside their family, will she be forced to step back and let Marcus destroy his life if he’s determined to just so she doesn’t become a casualty of his bad behavior?
