General Hospital Spoilers hint Charles Shaughnessy recently brought his run as the notorious Victor Cassadine to a surprising end, with an explosion that seemed to take him out for good. However, in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, he left some clues that things may not be as they seem.

We all know how this works. It seems that the most vindictive and treacherous characters in Port Charles are those who manage to cheat death time and time again. It’s funny how it works out that way. Why would Victor be any different than the many others who’ve come before him — especially in the Cassadine family tree?

We didn’t see Victor’s body before the explosion — apart from Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) leaving him to rot — but we did see him later, wheeled off in a body bag. This leaves plenty of room for speculation regarding the character’s possible return.

Shaughnessy pointed out that Victor has the resources and connections to pull off something like faking his own death. The Haunted Star might be blown to smithereens, but somehow Victor didn’t even have a smudge of ash on his cheeks. He looked to be resting peacefully, like he wasn’t covered with debris or injured in any way in the explosion.

Victor is known for being extremely cunning and devious, so it wouldn’t be unusual if he resurfaced with revenge on his mind. Even when Shaughnessy finished shooting his final scenes, he suggested there were still further dealings afoot and hinted at the possibility of some kind of return. Would it really have cost the Cassadine heir much to pay off an EMT or someone else from the recovery team as a means of him escaping persecution for taking everyone hostage and threatening to kill 80% of the planet?

It’s also possible that, even if he is truly deceased, he could come back in a ghostly form like Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers). Shaughnessy emphasized that he believes there is still potential for the master villain to appear again down the road. Whatever happens next with Victor remains to be seen – but it’s certain Charles Shaughnessy left an unforgettable impression during his exit arc!
