The Young and The Restless

Young and the Restless Spoilers: Soap To Air Special Episode Dedicated To John Abbott

Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers suggest that the soap opera will continue to celebrate its 50th anniversary by airing a special show, dedicated to John Abbott and the character’s portrayer, the late and great Jerry Douglas.

Y&R Spoilers: Special Show To Take Place This Month

Y&R spoilers hint that the special show honoring John Abbott will take place on Thursday, June 22nd.

The John Abbott role originally debuted in 1980 and was played by actor Sean Garrison, then Brett Halsey was recast later that year until 1981. Jerry Douglas entered the part in 1982. Unfortunately, Abbott died in 2006; however, the head writer for the series at that time, Maria Arena Bell, brought Douglas back some months later as a recurring guest star. The decision to kill off Abbott was a very controversial one amongst fans.

Jerry would go on to play the “ghost” of John Abbott, visiting his kids and loved ones when they needed him most. He also played Alistair Wallingford, John Abbott’s doppelganger, for three months in 2008. After Wallingford’s departure from storylines, Jerry still appeared now and again to his children, mainly his son Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

Sadly, in November 2021, Douglas passed away after a brief illness. The actor was 88 years old.

Y&R Spoilers: What To Expect From The John Abbott Special

As with any great Y&R tribute, fans should expect John’s loved ones to reflect on the incredible life Abbott had, so fans should expect plenty of classic video “flashbacks”. Kym Douglas, author, TV star, and wife of Jerry will also appear as a special guest. She’ll be playing Zelda Wilford, a woman that shares a special link to the Abbotts.

Viewers should also expect to see Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Eileen Davison (Ashley Abbott), Beth Maitland (Traci Abbott), and Jason Thompson (Billy Abbott) in the special, as John’s children will probably take center stage. Can this tribute help bring the kids closer together? Jack and Ashley could use the reminder right now.
