As she reached for another ornament to decorate her first Christmas tree with her baby boy, Ace Cassadine (Jay and Joey Clay), she remembered doing the same thing last year — alone, and in a much different fashion. This recollection shocked Esme to her core.
She’s not emotionally ready to confront her past, and she doesn’t want it to change her future. Can she keep it all under wraps?
So far, Esme has only remembered that she was decorating a tree in the tower at Wyndemere where Nikolas was holding her hostage.
That may not sound like much, but the emotions around her at that time were rather powerful. She was bonding with her unborn baby and already in love with him.
She worried about his future and had concerns that she wouldn’t be able to care for him since she was not only a wanted fugitive but also broke with nowhere to go.
She wasn’t looking forward to giving her baby up to Nikolas, and she also wasn’t enjoying being held captive and treated like dirt. It was lonely in that tower.
As the memories of her past come back to her, she’ll also have to confront the truth about who she is — and that extends well beyond the vicious things she’s done.
Rather, she’ll have to remember her connection to her biological father, Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom).
Her fascination with him will creep back into her mind. Her desire to please him and earn his love will turn her stomach.
Her affection for helping him ruin Ava Jerome’s (Maura West) life by way of infiltrating Spencer’s will crush her. But if Esme knows what’s good for her, she won’t let these weathered-over emotions take a toll on her for long.
Fortunately for Esme, remembering the tarnished points of her past means she will also start to remember the good times.
No, she didn’t have many of them in recent years that the new Esme would be proud of, but it will dawn on her that there really is a new Esme.
That version of herself will be disgusted and traumatized by the memories and emotions that surface painting her as such a horrible person.
She really did do all of the things people told her she did, and now she can feel the weight and pain of those decisions.
Among the bad memories, good ones of her time spent with Spencer will also trickle in — and she’ll realize that while she was pretending for her dad, she truly was in love with Spencer before.
Will those old emotions only serve to strengthen the feelings she’s been trying to snuff out in recent months, or will
Esme be compelled to tell Spencer the truth — that she’s falling for him all over again? Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers to find out.
