General Hospital News: John J. York Begins Stem Cell Treatment Process

General Hospital (GH) spoilers and news indicate that John J. York (Mac Scorpio) is about to embark on a major journey.

Some months ago, he informed fans via social media that he was set to take a hiatus from the ABC soap; he later revealed this was due to being diagnosed with two blood and bone marrow disorders, Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and multiple smoldering myeloma.

He informed fans he was in need of a blood stem cell transplant. Thankfully he was able to find a match rather quickly.

While GH audiences have been worried, but it looks like the actor has something hopeful to look forward to.

GH News: John J. York’s Treatment Will Be Intense

The actor recently provided a health update. According to reports, his stem cell transplant is a process that takes about 100 days.

York recently told TV Insider that the first week of undergoing treatment is an eight-day process that involves heavy chemo, which means he’ll likely lose his hair.

Still, he’d be okay with this, but there are other concerning issues that can arise from the treatment, which are fatal. With that being said, fans need to rally with positive thoughts and prayers John.

He notes that the doctors will be basically “wiping” his body clean of what he’s been living with during this health crisis, in terms of DNA and blood; placing new “stuff” into him from his donor.

GH News: John J. York Is Taking Things, One Day At A Time

York will be undergoing treatment every day, for 100 days, unless positive results surface earlier than that.

He also notes the first 20 days after his treatment is complete will be the most critical, and he won’t be out of the woods after that as continual testing will take place.

From the sounds of things, York is approaching this with a positive outlook. The process will be long and demanding; however, he notes in his TV Insider interview that he’s taking things, one day at a time.
