General Hospital Comings And Goings: Réal Andrews Speaks Out About His Show Status as Marcus Taggert

General Hospital (GH) spoilers for the week of October 16, 2023 show that there is little ingress and egress from Port Charles, New York this week.

Your favorite sudser has plenty of action going on with the characters who are staying put right where they are. That doesn’t mean we don’t have some casting dish for you, however. Read on to discover the status of one of the show’s most beloved long-term characters.

Réal Andrews has played Marcus Taggert since 1996. More recently his character learned that he is not the biological father of Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali), which put his world into a spin cycle. Instead, it was revealed that Curtis Ashford (Donnel Turner) is the father of Portia Robinson’s (Brook Kerr) daughter.

Normally this is not a surprise occurrence in soap land where characters routinely lie, switch DNA results, and come back from the dead. Most fans were certain that Curtis was Trina’s bio dad after the show handed them buckets of hints.

After the big reveal, fans saw Taggert remain strong for his daughter, and assure her that she will always be his child. Since then however, Taggert has not been seen and presumably he is dealing with the stunning news offscreen.

Fans want to know Andrews’ casting status and he addressed this topic on his Instagram saying that he is “really, really good with” the direction the show has taken with his character.

He went on to say “I cannot be and have no desire to be concerned about…when I’m working or why I’m not working… All I can control is what I can control, and that’s that when I am called, I am ready and I show up with excellence.”

For now the show has given no indication that Taggert will be back in a meaningful way, and that is unfortunate since the character has proven to be popular with fans and Andrews does indeed show up each and every time he is onscreen.

After being presumed dead, Taggert was revealed to be alive in 2020. Not only does the character have a front burner plot going with his paternity reveal, he is also connected to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) as a frenemy, with their connection going all the way back to young adulthood.
